Heat Treatment

Heat Treatment Services in Michigan

The experts at Warner Brothers Foundry Company want to help you design and create original castings made of aluminum, bronze, brass, and similar alloys. To ensure that your orders have the correct mechanical properties for your applications, we perform heat treatments to alter the characteristics of metals. The process of heating and cooling in a controlled environment provides flexibility for prototype models and castings that take the form of equipment parts and hardware.

At Warner Brothers Foundry Company, it’s our goal to manipulate casting orders to suit the demands of your industry. Together, we’ll come up with a heating and cooling procedure to boost tensile strength, hardness, and related qualities based on your preferences.

About Metal Casting Heat Treatments

Metal heat treatments are an exact science. It takes an experienced team to complete procedures safely without compromising the structural integrity of a casting product. Warner Brothers Foundry Company has been operating in the metal casting industry since 1955, and our employees have a strong grasp on the role heat treatments play throughout the production process.

We take the following steps during our non-ferrous metal heat treatment procedures:

  1. Annealing: The purpose of annealing is to promote recrystallization. This stage involves heating a non-ferrous metal and allowing it to cool at a controlled rate. Annealing reduces metal hardness and alleviates stress.
  2. Precipitation hardening: Non-ferrous metals are exposed to high temperatures for hardening purposes. An increase in yield strength occurs as precipitate particles lift from the solid material.

Types of Heat Treatment Services We Offer

No two non-ferrous metal alloys are exactly alike. Exposing metal casting materials to hot and cold temperatures calls for a trained professional. The experts at Warner Brothers Foundry Company specialize in several types of heat treatment services from our headquarters in the Detroit, Michigan area. Here are some of the most common heat treatments we perform for our clients:

F Heat Treatment

No additional temperature controls are put in place after casting the non-ferrous metal alloy. This form of treatment leaves metals in as-cast condition.

T4 Heat Treatment

Casting solutions experience natural aging at room temperature. A T4 heat treatment boosts machinability and tensile strength within a time frame of six to 12 hours. Alloys see temperatures near 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

T5 Heat Treatment

Metal alloys are cooled and stabilized with or without liquid quenching. The heating process exposes castings to temperatures near 500 degrees Fahrenheit for up to 10 hours.

T6 Heat Treatment

Casting materials are exposed to temperatures of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 to 12 hours. A T6 heat treatment involves hot water quenching followed by artificial aging procedures.

T7 Heat Treatment

Metal alloys are heated to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 hours. Workers quench the material in hot water, and the alloys undergo over-aging procedures until they are stable.
